Another one for the "Oldies",
John O'Connor pictured with 72 year old author Eamon O'Leary who has just launched his first book I'm a Big Boy Now, a reader's passport to an Irish boyhood in a less frantic, more adventurous age, as he relives a time of skinned knees and home-made go-karts, clean dirt, Saturday night baths and the kind of sweets that nearly cost you your teeth.
This nostalgic, and very funny, book features many stories from Kerry from the time the author spend in the county as a child.
Talking to The Kenmare News he said, “Try to Imagine a world before the internet. Before smartphones. Before a hundred channels on a flat-screen TV, and a round-the-clock news cycle pumping out endless, depressing stories. Imagine a world that quiet. That peaceful. That completely different from the here and now. A time of cowboys, hopscotch, playing football on the road, and all the lessons that go into becoming a Big Boy, including the dreaded Lesson About Girls.”
Signed copies of I'm a Big Boy Now are now available from Kenmare Book shop and would make the perfect Christmas gift for those at home and abroad.
Hard to believe that Eamon, who could not get through a game of "tip", without starting an argument, would have a book inside him.
Well done Eamon from all the "Old F**ts from the Carrigmore days.
