Sustainability Mission Statement:

With the ongoing energy and climate change crisis OCRFC are determined to play their part by seeking funding so as the club will become a net energy contributor to the local community by the Summer of 2025.

Background to the Decision:

A sustainability working group was established in September 2022 with the task on identifying the key strategic changes required to become a net energy contributor to the local community.
Based on the findings of the sustainability working group, OCRFC committee at their May 2023 meeting, made the decision that the club will strive to be a net energy contributor by Summer of 2025. The committee recognised that this is a very challenging task but ultimately recognises that this is the best possible collective contribution that can be made to help alleviate the effects climate change.

Work Required/Completed to become a Net Energy Contributor:

1)Upgrading of internal lighting of clubhouse and sports hall to energy efficient LED lighting – completed using circa €10k of club funding – this has resulted in a 20% reduction in the amount of energy consumed by the club.
2). Invest in a large-scale Solar PV system with battery storage that will cover our annual energy usage and contribute any excess generated electricity to the grid – Funding being sourced.
3). Upgrading of external Pitch lighting to energy efficient LED lighting – Funding being sourced.
4). Removal of old fossil fuel energy systems (Club has both oil and gas boilers) and replace with renewable energy systems (A2W heat pump couple with the Solar PV system) – Funding being sourced.
