Today we welcomed Midleton up to Rathcooney for what we all thought was a “friendly” match but playing Midleton throughout the years, you know that’s never the case.
We got on top of the scoreboard in the first half with tries from Mark, Brian and a brace on the day for Seany Delaney including one from an audacious cross field kick from Ben. We were well on top on both sides of the ball with great hits and countless jackals from our pack which set us up in great positions in which the half backs Conor Sugrue, who had his best game in an old Christian’s jersey to date and Ben o Connell to get a grip of the tie heading into the second half.
As the second half began, we were evidently tired owing to limited number of subs, left us with players playing the full 70 minutes. We manned up in defence well and kept Midleton out for what seemed to be an eternity until a couple of missed tackles left the Midleton man under the sticks for 7. After the score, we didn’t let our heads drop and got straight back charging our way up to half way where we executed a set move leading to one of the tries of the year to date finished by Ben.
This was a great test for the lads as we now shift our focus to our next match against Dolphin in the Pan Munster u18.5 with a chance to once again qualify for the Pan “A” competition.
