For the second year in a row our u/18.5 team qualified for the ¼ final of Munster Cup the premier club competition for this age group.
After 2 tough phases of rugby we finished 2nd in our group which ment an away trip in this ¼ final.
The tough, hard, close games that we played over the last few months was the perfect build up to this game.
It probably was the main reason we won today and probably the reason Kinsale lost
While we weren't as good today as we know we can be it was great to see the toughness and the determination of the lads to win this match.
Kinsale shot out of the blocks and were camped in our 22 for it seemed ages but they got no way through big hits and poor handling brought on by our defence kept them scoreless.
When we got some terrority we did well but the wrong option at times cost us chances and field position.
A great break by Sammy weaving through (what looked like 5 players) set us up on the attack and a phase or 2 later Seanie D touched down 0-5
As the final score was low there wasn't much to trouble the scoreboard or the writer of this.
The second half was much the same as the first a 50/50 game and it could have gone either way but mid way through the 2nd half we won a penalty for a late tackle on Ben and Sammy stood up,at the limit of his range, and slotted the penalty to put it out to a 2 score lead.
In fairness to kinsale they kept at it and a strike play off their line out got them in for the full 7 with 10 mins left.
But full credit to the lads the defence was outstanding and I don't think Kinsale got a sniff of another scoring chance,a few helter/skelter and hands on heads moments aside, they saw it out.
From what I heard we are the first U18½ team in the club to reach this stage of the Munster Cup,so regardless of what happens from here on in, we are in the top 4 in Munster this season a great achievement for the lads.
With a match like that it's hard to pick out players as everyone stood up and did what they had to do because if anyone didn't put in a shift today then we were out.
So it's on to a semi final V Clonakilty at Musgrave Park or Virgin Media Park(what ever you want to call it) next Sunday 9th with a 3 o'clock KO
All support greatly accepted and appreciated
