Munster Cup SEMI FINAL
Old Christian's 16
Clonakilty 14
THE “UNDERDOG” STORY CONTINUES
At the start of a season, with a big change in the age group, nobody knew what we could do but I think, we can all agree that it turned out pretty okay in the end
This magnificent group is the 1st team from the club to reach an u18.5s Pan Munster final and out of 46 teams were in the final 2,
A brilliant achievement for a great bunch of lads.
The reason we are where we are the running for the glory is because shear heart, utter will to win attitude , steely determination and outstanding defence
because as we go further in this competition the better the opposition has gotten
After our nail-biting away win v Kinsale in the ¼ final and the age old rivals of our 18s squad Clonakilty were our semi final opposition at the neutral Musgrave Park.
The West Cork side are always a tough opposition and we're thankful to get out on the right side of the scoreline
We started out brightly and ferociously and gave them the no chance to build on their game plan and as was said before defence was the key. Big tackles on our big men from the pack especially big hit from Will on their big ball carrier as well as massive double hits from Brian and Rhys.
In the first half, we kept the scoreboard ticking over with Sammy kicking 2 penalties over to give us a lead of 6-0 going into the break.
We took our foot off the throat of Clon within the second half which let them back into it and eventually they went over twice in quick succession to make it 6-14 which didn’t last long as Sammy, the hero on the day kicked his 3rd penalty bringing us to 9-14
5 points down and going out if we didn't get the full 7 points.
Some outstanding work rate and tackling from the forward pack and some incredible scramble defence from Sean Delaney left Liam Kelleher with a big run with open space. Liam regained the ball from his own kick upfield continued good pressure brought us up to the try line and after a couple more phases being pushed back within an inch of the white wash the from the Clon pack, Sean D was set up to touch down in the corner 14-14 each and then Sammy knocking a jaw-dropping conversion over from the touchline to win it against all odds.
Another down to the wire game we've come out on the right side of which is a testament to the players and their unbreakable mentality
So it's on to the final on the 30th in Musgrave Park, with kickoff at 3 o'clock
Hopefully we will have a good crowd to cheer the lads on!🇧🇪
