On Saturday afternoon the U18.5s started their competitive season with their first game in the South Munster league against Mallow.
It was the perfect day for Rugby, and the boys didn't disapoint by giving the crowd fortunate enough to be there a performance of great quality.
The game started with Old Christians on the front foot and putting the Mallow defence under immediate pressure with a couple of great attacks, but a few handling errors and a few knocks only had the boys ahead 3-0 from the boot of Sean midway through the first half. It wasn't until the 26th minute the Mallow offered anything in attack, this culminating in a penalty given away by Christians on the 22 which the Mallow 10 duly dispatched making the score now 3-3. This wasn't a true reflection of how dominant our lads had been, and sprung them into action with a try of great quality constructed by Sean and Jack and finished by Oscar. Sean duly converted making the score now 10- 3 in our favour 29 minutes on the Clock.
But we didn't have to wait much longer for another score  after a couple nice passing moves between the forwards,  beginning and ending with Brian touching down in the corner. Sean came very close but failed with a very difficult conversion making the score now 15 -3 at halftime.

The second half began with Mallow throwing everything at our lads from the off, but our defence stood strong and repelled countless Mallow attacks. Old Christians gradually began to get a foot hold on the game and again scored a try with Cormac crossing after a nice interchange with Sean out on the right wing. Try not converted making the score 20-3 and Old Christians now playing all the rugby, 8 minutes later Cormac crossed again wide on the right and Old Christians stretched the lead out to 25-3.
Mallow were determined not to go out without a fight and from a quick tapped penalty in the Christians 22  the winger crossed under the posts to make the score now 25-10. But Old Christians weren't finished yet and Jack crossed in the corner after a  superb move involving Dav ( who controlled the game superbly at 10 ) and Sean to release Jack in the Corner. Sean excellently converting from a difficult position. So ending a great performance from the boys. All 23 played and contributed in no small way. Congratulations to Conor and his Squad for what was a great opening day victory.
