Pan Munster U16 Conference 5 - Phase 1
Old Christians RFC 36 - 12 Highfield RFC

Old Christians began their Pan Munster campaign with a tough opening fixture against Highfield. After even exchanges in the opening few minutes, Highfield opened the scoring with a clever chip over the top of the defensive line and a tap down under the posts. Not the start that we wanted! Credit to the lads as they quickly got back into the game and after some hard carries and good passing play, leveled the game with a Donnacha Horgan try in the corner, duly converted by Kayden.

Kayden added a try straight from the restart after the ball was caught, retained and moved quickly, with Kayden making a break up through the middle to score under the posts. 12 - 7 Old Christians led. Old Christians at this stage were winning the possession battle and despite not converting some chances, they kept piling the pressure on and again after some good drives, Callum Buckley touched down out wide to cap a very good team move.

The 2nd half began with a fierce battle between the two teams, who went back and forth at each other. Old Christians opened the 2nd half scoring with a fantastic team try, culminating with Cillian O'Connell touching down in the corner. Kayden converting from a very difficult angle in even more difficult wind conditions.  Credit to Highfield as they never gave up and put a lot of field pressure on us for the next 10 mins. The pressure paid off, with a very strong run and try from within the 22. It was 24 - 12 now, but Old Christians were not rattled.

They again put some great carries, passing and runs together with Darragh just stepping out of bounds inside the 5. On the resultant lineout, Aaron Breen pounced on a mistake from Highfield and touched down to extend the lead again, another very impressive conversation from Kayden to make it 31 -12.  From the restart,we again put together some strong carries and passing to get us down to within Highfields 5. Some strong forward play, allowed for Shayden Harris to touch down and make the score 36 - 12.

That was to remain the final score and a well deserved win for the team. Congratulations to Kayden and the team for a great game, played with a lot of heart and no little skill. Man of the match today was Oskar Nastalcyk who embodied everything that we had asked the players to be.
