As a new season approaches MAR would like to highlight the upcoming new referees course which will take place on August 27th in Charleville.
Referee numbers and availability will still be a challenge for the coming season.

New Referee Commitments
- Availability – we ask that all MAR Referees are available to fulfil a minimum 3 appointments per month (i.e. 1 match per week for 3 weeks out of 4)
- Fitness – the referee is able to keep pace with the level of Rugby that they are officiating, in order to make accurate decisions, and to manage the game
- Rugby Knowledge – the referee must have an understanding of the Laws of the game, and to have an empathy for the game they are refereeing when applying the Laws of Rugby. More often than not, those with a playing and/or coaching background in Rugby have the best understanding of Rugby, and what is required from a referee in particular circumstances.
