U16 away to Carrickonsuir, 29-10 loss
We ended our campaign in the pan Munster plate away to Carrickonsuir on Sunday. We knew we were on for a battle by the size of the opposition pack but that didn’t deter the lads, in fact they had 19 07’s in the squad to our 8 players. In perfect conditions for rugby, we kicked off and went on the attack. Both teams went at it, it was relentless, Ryan Murphy, Ryan Kavanagh and Will Maxwell all digging deep. Carrick drew first blood. Moments later we were unlucky not to make it 5- 5 with Justin finger tips away for another of his trademark intercept trys. With our scrum on our 5 under pressure Carrick got their second after a loose ball was pounced on the the opposition 9. Our boys kept the pressure up in attack, working hard through the phases and were rewarded with a try when liam Kelleher touch down out wide. Last play before half time Carrick found touch inside our 22, only one route from there, but the lads were on to it and did brilliantly to drag the maul over the touch line, great work with Will, Darragh, Mike and Shane among those involved. Energy sapping stuff, and that was only on the sideline looking in.
5 min in to the start of the second half and playing down hill, Carrick kicked a penalty to the corner, this time their maul was too much for us and we couldn’t keep them out. A second followed soon after, tired bodies telling. With fresh legs on we were on the attack again a decent passage of play allowed us to open up the Carrick defence and score a second when Mike White shown great feet to weave in for a super try. From the kick off we again worked our way back up the pitch and were unluckily to add another after some great runs by Rhys and Jayden, but we couldn’t add to our score. Carrick closed out the scoring after an unlucky bounce didn’t go our way and they touched down in the corner. Lads never gave up, keep pushing to the end.
Man of the match, hard call, everyone gave it 110%, but Mike White was excellent in the open , line throwing was off but that will come. great game for a young lad, showed no fear, tackled and rucked well all game, won a brilliant jackle turn over and a try to add, well done Mike
