Cobh 10 Old Christians 13
U16’s travelled to a wet and windy Cobh for a midweek challenge game. The first half was a right good battle with most of the play spent between the 22’s . Playing against the hill and driving rain we were playing some decent stuff but the woeful conditions made it hard to get traction up the pitch with a few spilt balls stopping us going forward. We had a few opportunities in their 22 which we were unlucky not to capitalise on. Jayden going close on one occosion after a fine run, Our defence was solid, huge work rate by the pack Liam Haldow, Darragh o Donnabhain, Ryan Kavanagh, Shane Harrangton all putting in big shifts. A rejigged back line work well together, Sammy at 10 had a cracking game and used his boot to great effect, Rhys Cambridge at 12 making plenty of runs up the middle. Oscar mopping any challenge out wide. We finished the first half 0 - 3 points up after a penalty for a high tackle just outside their 22.
Not long after the restart we were rewarded with a second penalty close to the half way line which was coolly slotted home by Sammy, we were cruising now and dominating the opposition. The pack was well on top with plenty of carries with Will Maxwell and Darragh Coade amongst those making hard yards. 15 min in we attacked again from a lineout working through the phases before Mike white broke through and dotted down, Sammy converting to make it 0-13. The last 15 min saw a change of guard, and we seemed to lose momentum allowing Cobh in for two trys out wide in the closing minutes, a good all round performance by the lads in dreadful conditions
Man of the match, Jayden Sheehan, a threat to the opposition all game with his carry’s, unlucky not to score.
