U16’s away to Skibbereen
As soon as we landed in Skib the heavens opened up with torrential rain for the duration of the game.
From the off we were pinged for penalty after penalty allowing Skib to move up within reach of the try line. We held the initial pressure before Skib scored their first out wide when their winger slipped a tackle allowing him over. The pack more than held their own but the slippery conditions didnt help with some unforced errors preventing our attack at times. To be fair the opposition defence worked hard to hold up against us. Skib added a second just before half time again through a series of penalties in the build up.. We found ourselves guilty of some wasted chances with a few 3 on 1 opportunities squandered with poor decision making. We were inches away from scoring after a chip and chase by Liam Kelleher with the defender touching down for a goal kick drop out.
Shortly after the break we scored when after a series pf phases the ball was moved out wide to Liam who had some work to do before dotting down, the conversion narrowly missed.
Midway through the second half Skib were awarded a penalty under the posts to make it 13-5. Skib finished off the contest with mins in the clock to make it 20-5. It was a scoreline which flattered the hosts and didn’t reflect the effort the boys put in.
Man of the match Ciaran Roche, solid game at 15 mopped up any ball that came his way and used it well.
