Dolphin RFC 21 - 39 Old Christians

Our u14s kicked off their season with a tough away game at Dolphin. After an initial period of possession from Dolphin, Old Christians worked the ball up the field and were awarded a penalty on the 22 in front of the posts. The penalty was dispatched by Kayden Barry to give us an early lead.

Minutes later Old Christians went over for our 1st try, with a great line break and determined finish from Elliot Dawson. Old Christians went over again soon after with some great opportunist play from Kayden with a kick from ground, a tap and pick up to go over. 15 - 0 up, but we knew Dolphin were still well in the game.

Both teams fought hard for their yards with great running, tackling and rucking from both teams. Dolphin finally made their break through 5 mins before half time and doubled their score on the stroke of half time. 15 - 14 at the half.

We knew 1st score of the 2nd half was key, and unfortunately, it went the way of the hosts who took a 15 - 21 lead early in the 2nd. Massive credit to our lads, as they never dropped their heads. For the next 10 minutes, both teams went at each other in a very physical battle with no quarter given. Old Christians started to gain yardage and territory and eventually made the pressure tell, when Elliot again made a fantastic break through after some very good team play to go over in the corner to reduce the deficit to one point. 20- 21.

Old Christians kept the pressure up, and our preseason conditioning was beginning to tell. We worked the ball over to the corner, and Odhran O'Farrell finished a great team try to give us the lead at 25 - 21. The lads kept the pressure up, and after working the ball out wide, Elliot made another great run and scored his 3rd try of the game. 32 - 21. Another well worked team try followed and after some great runs from the pack, Michael Zmudka picked and finished well to round off the scoring and finish the game 39 - 21. The game was much closer than the final score suggests, but it was a well deserved win for the lads.
