The Old Christians U13 squad took to the field today for their very first youth game against a very spirited Ballincollig side. A very exciting and entertaining game was played and Old Christian’s came out on the right side of the result with a 32 to 7 win.
Having played all their prior rugby to date at mini’s level the squad did exceptionally well to adapt to the 15 aside youth game on a full pitch.
It was evident from early on that the players really enjoyed this experience.
There was a very high skill level shown by both teams and it was great to see the players execute all that they have been working hard on at training on the main pitch in Ballincollig.
By the final whistle the squad managed to score six tries in total but what was of greater importance from the coaches perspective today was that the squad amply demonstrated that they have the ability to self coach, encourage their team mates and make all the rugby decisions themselves.
Finally a big thank you to all the taxi drivers today - without you the squad would not be as strong as it is.
See you all at training this week.
